49ers re-sign Jordan Matthews, place Jalen Hurd on IR

The injury bug continues to bite the San Francisco 49ers, although nowhere near as drastic as it was back in 2018.

Still, a number of key injuries forced the Niners to make some roster moves on Thursday, which included placing rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd (back) and cornerback Jason Verrett (knee) on injured reserve.

To replace both Hurd and Verrett, the team re-signed veterans, wide receiver Jordan Matthews and cornerback Dontae Johnson, to one-year deals each.

San Francisco confirmed the deal with Johnson, while NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported the deal for Matthews:

A league source confirms #49ers are likely/will sign veteran WR Jordan Matthews, who was among team’s final cuts before start of regular season.
