The Committee of 101, a Kansas City-based group, had scheduled the banquet and announced honorees almost three weeks before Super Bowl LIV in which the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Which likely explains why John Harbaugh was named AFC Coach of the Year instead of the Chiefs’ Andy Reid.
Still, Shanahan had to think a spell before accepting the invitation.
