It is easy to look back to the “good ol’ days” and compare this year’s team to great 49ers teams of the past. It’s been a few years since Niner fans have been able to be optimistic about the team’s playoff chances.
A record of 3-0 used to be a standard start for the 49ers throughout the golden years of the 1980s and beyond. Hall-of-Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana or Steve Young would routinely lead the team deep into the postseason and to Super Bowl victory.
Since then, there have been some rare exciting seasons involving the Niners but they never ended with a win in the NFL’s final game of the year.
