Padres start Petco Park workouts next week

Padres players will begin working out Monday at Petco Park in an attempt to stay as ready as possible for a season put on hold for at least two months due to the novel coronavirus.

“It enables them to maintain some level of exercise and keep their arms and legs in shape,” Padres General Manager A.J. Preller said.

Preller characterized the work as “individual” and said it will be monitored to make sure groups are small and guidelines are followed to help keep those involved safe.

Players who live in Arizona (or choose to remain there) will be allowed to work out at the team’s spring training complex in Peoria.
