How MLB’s proposed pay structure would affect Padres

Manny Machado is being asked to go from making more than $185,000 per game to $60,609 per game. Tommy Pham is being asked to play for about half of the $48,765 he was due per game. Fernando Tatis Jr. would make $398 less per game than the $3,653 he was scheduled to make until the COVID-19 pandemic halted the 2020 season before it started.

These pay cuts are at the center of what Major League Baseball owners are asking the players to do in order to play this year.

Under a proposal submitted to the MLB Players Association on Tuesday, players with higher salaries would have their pay cut at a higher rate.
