BYU sweeps Texas in NCAA women’s volleyball regional final, moves on to Final Four

The Cougars are going back to the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament’s Final Four for the first time since 2014 after sweeping the Longhorns 3-0 Saturday night in a regional final at Smith Fieldhouse.

BYU improved to 31-1 and proved it deserved the top-four seed it took from Texas, which came in with the No. 5 seed.

Texas jumped out to a 17-13 lead in the first set before the Cougars found their legs and got rolling. Gneiting won it 25-23 with a kill and the Cougars hit .205 in the set.

A tight second set started to go BYU’s way late, as the Cougars broke from a 19-19 tie with a 5-1 run and then held off a mild UT comeback.
