It seemed like the Pirates might finally end their offensive drought.
In the sixth inning of their 1-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday night at PNC Park, the Pirates had runners at first and third with no outs. Adam Frazier had singled, advancing on an wild pickoff attempt from starter Chase Anderson. Starling Marte reached on a bunt single and later stole second.
But Andrew McCutchen, who is 2 for his last 24 with runners in scoring position, struck out, and Josh Bell and Gregory Polanco flied out, ending the Pirates’ best chance at taking a lead in nearly a week.
