Prospect rankings are showing up and the Pirates haven’t had a terribly impressive showing. Baseball America released its top 100 and had only two Pirates: Mitch Keller at #12 and Austin Meadows at #44. This reflects, among other things, the failure of the team’s international scouting and the underwhelming results from the 2015 and 2016 drafts, with the latter looking flat out terrible. I’m a little surprised that Shane Baz didn’t make the list, as everything I’ve seen indicates that scouts really like him.
The Pirates did a bit better with Keith Law, who’s released the bottom half of his top 100.
