One night after dropping an overtime game, the Penguins picked up a win at the PPG Paints Arena in the extra session Wednesday, beating the Red Wings, 6-5, for their first victory of the preseason.
Justin Schultz scored the game-winner 27 seconds into overtime on a breakaway.
Adam Johnson, signed this summer as an undrafted free agent, scored two goals for the Penguins. He is one of the candidates to fill the team’s vacant third-line center spot.
Greg McKegg, Conor Sheary and Jake Guentzel also scored for the Penguins. Guentzel led all scorers with four points, as he chipped in three assists as well.
