Penguins cracking down on slashing

In the midst of the NHL’s preseason crackdown on slashing penalties, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan offered up a reminder during his post-practice media session Friday morning.

“The ability to stick-check is still allowed in the rule book,” Sullivan said.

The league is attempting to limit the amount of slashing that goes on to protect players hands and wrists from rogue sticks, but the result has been preseason games that, as former Penguin Trevor Daley put it Wednesday, look more like special teams practices than actual games.

Sullivan said he expects officials and players to find “a happy medium” by the time the games start counting for real in two weeks.
