San Jose Sharks' 'home' opener to be played at Coyotes' Gila River Arena next month

Gila River Arena is going to have more hockey next month, beyond the eight home dates on the Arizona Coyotes schedule.

The San Jose Sharks will play their first two originally scheduled home games at the home of the Coyotes, the Sharks announced Saturday. Those games were to have been played at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.

Due to the ongoing ban on contact sports in Santa Clara County related to the potential spread of COVID-19, the Sharks' Feb. 1 and Feb. 3 games against the Vegas Golden Knights will be played in Glendale.

It's the same ban that, when put in place in late November 2020, forced the San Francisco 49ers to vacate Levi's Stadium and finish the regular season playing scheduled home games at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
