Coyotes move into fourth place with win over Ducks; Lane Pederson scores in NHL debut

Phil Kessel scored the go-ahead goal with 7:58 to play, a shot that went off an Anaheim Ducks player, and the Arizona Coyotes moved into fourth place and playoff position in the NHL's Honda West Division with a 4-2 win Friday night in Southern California.

Forward Lane Pederson scored a goal in his NHL debut and Johan Larsson and Nick Schmaltz also scored for the Coyotes, who at 17-15-5 and 39 points overtook the St. Louis Blues for fourth in the West. St. Louis fell 3-2 to the Colorado Avalanche earlier on Friday.

Defenseman Jordan Gross, in just his fourth game of the season and first in two months after spending much of his time at AHL Tucson, had three assists.
