Dodgers lefthander Rich Hill had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the 10th inning, and a perfect game going into the bottom of the ninth, largely thanks to a full-extension catch from former Phillie Chase Utley.
Utley’s grab for the first out in the bottom of the eighth inning stole a hit from the Pirates’ Josh Bell.
Hill lost his perfect game in the bottom of the ninth when Dodgers third baseman Logan Forsythe bobbled a ball hit by the Pirates’ Jordy Mercer with no outs. Forsythe couldn’t handle the hard-hit grounder. Hill then lost the no-hitter after coming out for the bottom of the 10th inning and actually earned the loss on the night, giving up a walk-off home run to Josh Harris.
