At Rogers Arena in Vancouver, the Ottawa Senators kicked off the summer by selecting Finnish defenseman Lassi Thomson with the 19th overall pick in the NHL Draft.
Thomson, 18, spent this past season playing the right side on the Kelowna Rockets’ blueline - scoring 17 goals and 41 points in 63 games. The 6-foot defender is slated to join Ives in Finland to play pro hockey next season.
Through Colin’s DRAFT DAY: Expected Pick Range work, Thomson was expected to go 37th. Thomson is described as a puck-moving defenseman with skill who moves well around the ice.
