USF pauses football activities due to Notre Dame COVID-19 cases

USF has paused all football activities while waiting for COVID-19 test results due to recent exposure to a Notre Dame team announced it had COVID-19 cases.

The Bulls called it a precautionary move after the team traveled to South Bend, Ind., to take on the Fighting Irish this past weekend. Notre Dame has postponed its game Saturday against Wake Forest due to COVID-19 cases and initiated contact tracing. Video review confirmed USF players interacted with Notre Dame players who later tested positive for COVID-19.

“After learning of an outbreak of positive test results for the novel coronavirus at our previous opponent and a subsequent review of the video from last Saturday’s game for the purpose of contact tracing, USF football is pausing all on-field football activities pending the results from our second scheduled weekly team testing conducted Wednesday morning,” the school stated Wednesday morning.
