Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips signs rookie contract

New Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips signed his fully guaranteed rookie contract on Wednesday, the team announced.

Phillips, the second of two Dolphins’ first-round picks in the 2021 NFL draft, will make $14 million with a $7.5 million signing bonus. Phillips will also have a fifth-year contract option as is customary with first-round picks.

The Dolphins hope Phillips, a former University of Miami standout, who is listed as a linebacker on the team’s roster, can become a consistent pass rusher and pressure defender on coach Brian Flores’ defense.

Phillips started 10 games for Hurricanes in 2021, finishing with 45 tackles (21 solo), eight sacks, one interception and four passes defensed.
