Willie Taggart has left the University of Oregon to become the head football coach at Florida State. Taggart will succeed Jimbo Fisher, who resigned to become Texas A&M's coach last week.

Taggart's departure has opened a coaching vacancy at Oregon for the second time in as many years.

Co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal was named interim coach while the Ducks prepare for the Las Vegas Bowl.

Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens met with the media on Tuesday to discuss Taggart's departure and talk about the upcoming coaching search.

"When we sat down a year ago, there was a pledge for commitment and a vision for long term and it was one that we believed," said Mullens.
