Canzano: How the departure of Willie Taggart and hire of Mario Cristobal happened

Oregon promoted Mario Cristobal on Friday to the position of head football coach.

-- Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens is notified that Florida State wants to talk with his football coach, Willie Taggart. The Seminoles had already been in contact with Taggart's representative, Jimmy Sexton, for some time. He also represents Jimbo Fisher. Mullens uses this day, a Thursday, and the following day, a Friday, to begin his preliminary work on a contingency plan. Taggart's $4.36 million buyout doesn't appear to be a deterrent for Florida State (annual AD revenue $114 million).
