Saint Joe Mussatto and I sat watching the Duke-Central Florida game Sunday evening, and I mentioned one of the cool parts of our job. Every once in awhile, maybe once or twice a year, I’m at a game that is the biggest sporting event in America that particular day.
I think I first thought of it at the 2000 Bedlam football game. That was pre-Thunder. That was early-day Bob Stoops Renaissance. In the decade of the 1990s, Eddie Sutton’s 1995 Final Four team was the biggest thing in Oklahoma sports. We had sort of been out of the habit of taking the American sports spotlight.
