NORMAN — Spencer Rattler's struggles in Saturday's 38-35 loss to Kansas State aren't unexpected for a redshirt freshman, Sooners coach Lincoln Riley said Tuesday.
"This is just the natural evolution of a quarterback," Riley said. "This is what happens. Eighty-five, 90 percent of what he did was either really good or fabulous on Saturday. But a couple of mistakes really cost us — cost our offense, cost our team.
"He's gotta learn from those, learn from the entire situation."
OU's quarterbacks to this point under Riley have gone through most of their growing pains elsewhere — Baker Mayfield at Texas Tech, Kyler Murray at Texas A&M and Jalen Hurts at Alabama.
