Sean Smith a letdown in Raiders’ preseason opener

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Nobody got hurt Saturday night — which is the preseason prayer for all teams — except for maybe the pride and feelings of Raiders cornerback Sean Smith.

Smith, who is guaranteed $9.5 million this season, was recently given a wake-up call at training camp when he was demoted to the second team for four practices. He was back with the 1’s at Thursday’s practice and maybe the coaches thought their nightmare was over.

Nope. Smith was called for two penalties and gave up two catches in a half of play in the preseason opener, as the Raiders fell behind early and would lose 20-10 to the Arizona Cardinals.
