ALAMEDA — The Raiders have exercised the fifth-year contract option on Khalil Mack, ensuring the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year remains with the team through at least 2018, a league source confirmed. Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager was the first to have the news.

Mack, the No. 5 overall pick in 2014, would receive the average of the top 10 players at his position in 2018 if the Raiders don’t first put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has made that his stated goal, although the higher priority at this point would be to lock up quarterback Derek Carr and right guard Gabe Jackson — the team’s second and third round picks from 2014 who are entering the final year of their deals.
