OAKLAND — Scoring a touchdown in the NFL is certainly a feat worthy of celebration and some giddiness.
But to score on a meme? Now that’s next level.
And it’s unquestionably funny.
To everyone but Jon Gruden, that is.
Gruden called NFL games for ESPN for nine years, and during that time, America came to understand that one of his favorite plays in the world is called “Spider 2 Y Banana”.
It seemed as if there wasn’t a Monday Night Football game where the play wasn’t mentioned.
Spider 2 Y Banana became an inside joke of sorts for football nerds — a solid play with an outsized reputation, in large part because of ESPN’s offensive coordinator in residence’s affinity for it.
