How Raiders are bolstering their defense in free agency

Lamarcus Joyner wanted his new team to be on the east coast. Born in Miami and a product of Florida State, Joyner thought “nothing was going to change” returning closer to home as an unrestricted free agent.

He had spent the first five years of his career with the Rams, first in St. Louis then Los Angeles, before the reigning Super Bowl runners-up replaced Joyner, 28, with 34-year-old safety Eric Weddle last week.

“Until I heard Coach Gruden called and I kind of did a whole 180,” Joyner said on a conference call Thursday. “After getting to talk to him and some of the guys in the building, I was very excited about the way they were going to use me and how people were happy to have me here.
