Giorgio Tavecchio named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

For his record-setting NFL debut Sunday, Raiders’ kicker Giorgio Tavecchio has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The 27-year-old Tavecchio became the first kicker in league history to make two 50-plus-yard field goals in his regular-season debut in Oakland’s 26-16 win over the Tennessee Titans. He also made field goals of 43 and 20 yards, as well as a pair of extra points.

Tavecchio has been cut in the preseason by four teams since 2012 – three times by the Raiders – and finally got his chance when the Raiders placed Sebastian Janikowski on injured reserve with a back injury last Friday.
