OAKLAND — Mike Fiers got another shot at the Texas Rangers. But this time, no “cat tail” curled across his face and, fortunately, no stingers zipped up his pitching arm.
That numbing sensation Fiers felt back in muggy Arlington wasn’t new — he’d felt it throwing his cutter mid-game against the New York Yankees — the mental hangup mired his mind and performance, but he appeared unconcerned after the game by the possible ramifications of a nerve oddity.
In Fiers’ start Friday night, his placidity looked about justified.
