Athletics break 23-year record, sweep Rangers

ARLINGTON — The A’s swept the Rangers with a 6-1 win on Sunday afternoon. They’ve now won six in a row.

Matt Chapman’s home run in the ninth inning broke the A’s single season record for home runs with 244. The previous record was 243 in 1996.

Marcus Semien hit his 30th home run of the season, closing a couple milestones for the A’s. It matched the single-season record and Semien became the third Athletic to join Matt Chapman (33) and Matt Olson (34) in the 30-plus home run club this season; the last time the A’s had three 30 home run hitters was in 2001 with Jason Giambi, Eric Chavez and Miguel Tejada.
