Northwestern Wildcats defense leads way to upset over #21 Stanford Cardinals

College football is back and in full swing. Some teams who should win have struggled out of the gate, like the 21st ranked Stanford Cardinals.

Saturday morning in Evanston, IL, the Cardinal offense hit a brick wall. That brick wall? The Northwestern Wildcats’ defense.

The Wildcats definitely came to play in their season opener in front of their home crowd, shocking the 21st ranked Cardinals 16-6.

Northwestern held Cardinals quarterback Kevin Hogan to 155 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception, while completing only 20 of 35 pass attempts.

If that wasn’t enough, Stanford was held to a minuscule 240 yards of TOTAL offense, two turnovers and a time of possession of 28:05.
