Northwestern goes with Clayton Thorson as starting quarterback

The future is now for the Northwestern Wildcats, at least that seems to be the message given out on Thursday by head coach Pat Fitzgerald. What was widely rumored became reality, as Fitzgerald announced redshirt freshman Clayton Thorson the starting quarterback for the season opener against Stanford.

Thorson, a former four-star recruit out of Wheaton, Ill. (North), was long thought to have been the likely pick as the starter.
