UNI soccer: Panthers improve to 3-0 with 2-0 blanking of South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. -- For only the second time in school history, Northern Iowa has started its women's soccer season 3-0 following a 2-0 victory over South Dakota Sunday.

The last time the Panthers started 3-0 came in 2003, and the win over the Coyotes snapped a three-game losing streak to USD. USD had beaten UNI, 4-0, a year ago.

"Sunday games are always a battle and we stepped up and dictated play for large chunks of the game," UNI head coach Bruce Erickson said. "

UNI took control early when senior Sarah Brandt scored at the 10 minute and 50 second mark for her 11th career goal.
