ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drew Foster has grown into Friday’s quarterfinals.
The sophomore from Mediapolis is one of two Northern Iowa wrestlers to win in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, even though it wasn’t clear how and where he would compete a few years ago.
Foster was recruited at 165 pounds and never won an Iowa high school state wrestling title, but he’s one win from the 184-pound national semifinals.
“He’s a small-town Iowa boy who has wrestled for a long time and believes in what’s going on,” Northern Iowa head coach Doug Schwab said Thursday night.
