CEDAR FALLS, Ia. — The Northern Iowa players’ media day duties had concluded, but a conglomerate of Panthers faithful still lingered inside a nearly vacant UNI-Dome. As the new football turf sparkled underneath, some coaches flung passes to their diving sons, each catch supposedly more spectacular than the last. Others chatted in small circles with wives and family.
“You can kind of see how things are meshing,” defensive line coach David Braun said. “It’s a special staff.”
For a UNI coaching unit that wasn’t fully completed until late July, the 2017 offseason has been loaded with adjustments and alterations as Mark Farley looks to weave in seven new coaches this season.
