UNI closes strong to rally past Indiana State

CEDAR FALLS, Ia. — A month ago, who knows?

Down nine with 10 minutes to go — after blowing a double-digit first-half lead, no less — might have been too daunting for Northern Iowa. A month ago, the Panthers were sputtering amid a seven-game skid. Defense was spotty. Offense, too.

But UNI’s current state offers more encouragement. Although the Panthers’ five-game winning streak ended Wednesday against Illinois State, defensive stability and timely buckets have returned for Ben Jacobson’s squad. UNI got just enough of both Saturday to complete a late stampede from disaster.

The Panthers limited Indiana State to just three field goals over the final seven minutes, and Jeremy Morgan’s aggressiveness resurfaced down the stretch to propel UNI to a 65-60 win over the Sycamores at the McLeod Center.
