UNI beats Iowa State, wins first dual at Hilton since 2003

AMES, Ia. — The Northern Iowa wrestling team ended a long streak at Hilton Coliseum and may have gained some respect in the process.

The 23rd-ranked Panthers secured their first win over Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum since 2003 with a 20-12 victory over the Cyclones on Friday night.

“I don’t care if Iowa State’s 1-100,” said Northern Iowa coach Doug Schwab. “It’s an in-state rival. They have beat us. I don’t care what they say. I don’t feel like they look at us as equal.”

The Panthers are on top after losing back-to-back duals to the Cyclones and six straight in Ames.
