CEDAR FALLS, Ia. — Despite leading for just three minutes and change Saturday, Northern Iowa used three late turnovers and found enough offense late en route to another top-10 upset. The Panthers knocked off No. 6 South Dakota, 34-29, at the UNI-Dome to remain firmly in playoff contention.
Here’s what we learned:
Playoffs? Yeah, playoffs.
Saturday’s showdown was basically a must-win for UNI to keep its playoff hopes alive, and all the Panthers did was respond with their third top-10 victory in the last four weeks. What appeared to be a daunting gauntlet of five ranked foes in five straight weeks saw UNI emerge on the other side, 3-2, and squarely in the postseason picture.
