WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team came up on the short end of a 5-2 decision to the Southern Illinois Salukis on Saturday at Byrnes Park.
SIU (10-11 overall, 4-2 MVC) swept the doubles action to take a 1-0 lead over UNI (8-9 overall, 1-5 MVC).
The Panthers got on the board with a pair of singles wins from No. 1 Jieke Stroobant and No. 5 Eve Small. Stroobant recorded a straight sets win over SIU's Xiwei Cai, 6-4, 6-1. Small was able to rally from a set down to force a third-set tiebreaker against SIU's Polina Dozortseva.
