Northern Iowa nabbed the MAC regular season crown, but it will need more to pry the conference tournament away from Missouri.
Hosting the postseason event in Cedar Falls, the Panthers had six wrestlers win quarterfinals in the McLeod Center and advance into Saturday afternoon’s semifinal round. The Tigers took nine of their 10 grapplers into the semis, including returning national champion J’Den Cox, at 197 pounds.
The six Panthers advancing were: Dylan Peters (125 pounds), Josh Alber (133), Max Thomsen (149), Bryce Steiert (165), Taylor Lujan (174) and Drew Foster (184).
The MAC semifinals are scheduled to resume just after 3 p.
