CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Despite trimming the deficit to only one point late in Friday's season opener, Northern Iowa (0-1) couldn't overcome IUPUI (1-0) at home as the Jaguars downed the Panthers 54-48.
A Kennedy Kirkpatrick 3-pointer cut the Jaguar lead to 45-44 with 5:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, but IUPUI responded with a 9-3 run to close out the game.
IUPUI had four players in double-figures, while Kirkpatrick led UNI with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. Sophomore Megan Maahs turned in a double-double after scoring 10 points and snagging a career-high 16 boards.
