Doug Schwab has spent all season emphasizing the importance of bonus points to his team. On Sunday, his Northern Iowa wrestlers learned firsthand what can happen when they don’t score many and the other team does.
South Dakota State beat the Panthers, 22-16, on Sunday at Frost Arena in Brookings, South Dakota. Northern Iowa, ranked 20th by Trackwrestling, is now 5-3 on the year and 2-1 against Big 12 Conference competition while the Jackrabbits, ranked 12th, improved to 8-2, 2-1.
The Panthers and Jackrabbits each won five matches, but South Dakota State scored two pins and a major decision while UNI only countered with a single major decision.
