NC State had the misfortune to return to play against a Virginia Tech team that decided to play above its head offensively, but the Hokies also have been one of the better shooting teams in the country—they rank 32nd in effective field goal percentage—so their excellent shooting performance wasn’t completely out of the blue.
Virginia Tech has been close to breaking through as well—its last five losses have been by five points or fewer, including a four-point loss to top-ranked Louisville. That’s not a bad team.
But while the Hokies are a good shooting team, NC State is an elite one—ninth in 2FG%, 10th in 3FG%, fourth in eFG%.
