Pat Leonard: NFL execs better track down Tony Romo before it’s too late

Maybe Tony Romo wants to stay in the booth. And maybe CBS will give him Jon Gruden-level money to keep him on its lead NFL broadcast team with play-by-play man Jim Nantz.

But if you are an NFL owner or GM right now, it arguably would be negligence not to track down Romo’s cellphone number and call him to gauge his feelings on coaching your team — or at least running your offense.

Because Romo’s performance Sunday on CBS’ broadcast of the Patriots’ AFC Championship Game win over the Chiefs in Kansas City made one reality absolutely clear:

Romo, 38, if he’s interested, undoubtedly will be employed as an NFL offensive coordinator and/or head.
