New York Rangers report cards 17-18: Paul Carey

On July 1, 2017, the New York Rangers made a big splash by signing defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to a big-time contract. Hours after signing the New Rochelle, New York native, the Blueshirts brought former Winnipeg Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec on board so that goalie coach Benoit Alaire could work his magic once again.

But the Rangers also made another signing that day that didn’t get nearly as much attention; or any intention at all.

Journeyman forward Paul Carey signed a one-year, $650,000 contract to join the Rangers’ franchise. The 28-year-old had a great season with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League in 2016-17.
