New York Rangers analysis: Islanders stomp split squad Rangers 5-2

To get the obvious out of the way, the New York Rangers dressed a minimalist lineup on Saturday night against the New York Islanders. The Rangers only played six players that are expected to crack the opening night lineup (This excludes Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil because their status is still up in the air).

The Rangers struggled in every phase of the game with a pedestrian lineup. On the other hand, the Islanders more or less had their opening night lineup in action. So the lopsided score is an accurate reflection of the talent disparity. These two teams will meet again next week closer to the start of the regular season, it is expected that Henrik Lundqvist will play the full game in that matchup.
