deGrom shines, Mets’ offense comes up empty in loss the Marlins

The Mets’ seemingly endless quest to squander Jacob deGrom starts continued this afternoon at Citi Field, as the best pitcher in baseball gave up just one run in eight innings but the team lost anyway.

deGrom matched his career high with fourteen strikeouts, and he only got beat once: when Jazz Chisholm hit a solo home run into the second deck in right field in the top of the second innings. Aside from that, deGrom threw 100 miles per hour with ease from the beginning through the end of his start, and he didn’t come particularly close to giving up any other runs.
