Jets’ new GM makes his first move, claims a cornerback

New Jets general manager promised a lot of action on the waiver wire this summer and he got it started Wednesday.

The Jets claimed cornerback Montrel Meander off of waivers from the Raiders, the first pickup of the Joe Douglas era. An undrafted free agent, Meander spent most of last season on the Browns’ practice squad before finishing the season with the Raiders. Meander has not played in an NFL game. He played two seasons at Grambling State after a brief stay at Texas.

At his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Douglas promised he would be working to improve the Jets roster through picking up players off waivers.
