NY Islanders dominate stat sheet but fall to Boston Bruins for third time this season

Despite controlling long stretches of play, the New York Islanders fell 3-1 to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night at UBS Arena, undone by a pair of goals from Alex Steeves and a 44-save performance from Jeremy Swayman.

Mathew Barzal opened the scoring at 4:41 of the first period with his seventh goal of the season, giving the Islanders an early boost. But Steeves tied the game less than two minutes later, and the Bruins never trailed again. Tanner Jeannot put Boston ahead 43 seconds into the second period, and Steeves added his second goal — a shorthanded tally at 10:21 of the third — to provide insurance.
