Islanders, Josh Bailey agree to six-year contract extension

Josh Bailey has agreed to a six-year contract extension with the Islanders, the team announced Friday after a report of the deal emerged late Thursday.

The 28-year-old center has spent his entire 10-year career with the Isles after they selected him in the first round in the 2008 draft. The deal would keep him in New York through the 2023-24 season.

In 58 games this season, Bailey already has reached a career high in points (62) and assists (47).

“Josh has become one of the core members of the New York Islanders,” GM Garth Snow said in a news release.
