As camp readies to open, there is currently no quarterback competition

When the New York Giants selected Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the proverbial clock started ticking on Eli Manning’s Giants career. That clock can run fast or slow depending on two factors – how well Manning plays and how quickly Jones progresses.

Many believe that Manning, who will surely start the season under center, will give way to Jones at some juncture this season just as Kurt Warner did for Eli back in 2004. But that plan can hit a snag if the Giants somehow become playoff timber. Head coach Pat Shurmur may find some room for Jones in games but may not pull Manning as the starter if the Giants have a shot at the postseason.
