How the Steelers free agency outlay stacks up with the New England Patriots, AFC North rivals

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers front office did some salary cap alchemy just to afford free agency this year, then bent those restructured dollars around to sign as many as three starters, depending on if you count Derek Watt or how well Stefen Wisniewski competes in the event of training camp.

Some of their top rivals, however, were a lot less active.
