Many critical yardsticks measure the success or failure of a coaching regime. Player development, team motivation, X’s and O’s, game management, scouting and recruiting, winning vs. losing, stadium attendance, booster relations, campus citizenship and NCAA compliance are the critical boxes every coach must check.
But the eye test is the most basic gauge of where a program stands. School administrators, influential boosters, ticket-buying fans, television viewers and nosy reporters watch the games and read the body language.
Is the head coach in command or not?
